Hilary Charlesworth - "I began spinning my own yarn about 27 years ago and in those days I used the handspun yarn for knitting and crochet. I soon became interested in the idea of weaving and studied tapestry weaving with my teacher Joan Droop in Surrey. I then decided to take a City and Guilds Creative Textiles course and it was during this time that I began working on table and floor looms.
Later on I began teaching Spinning and Weaving and took my Adult Teaching Certificate. I am a member of the IfL, the Surrey Guild of Craftsmen and the British Tapestry Group. If you click on the "Courses" page of this website you can read about the textile courses I, and other local teachers offer.
At present my work is mainly rug weaving and tapestry weaving and I sell, exhibit and teach locally. I also accept commissions and some of these are described on the "Commissions" page of this website." Contact me on tel: 01730 817191 or hilary@totallytextiles.co.uk
Kirsty Allsopp and Hilary Charlesworth during the filming of "Kisty's Homemade House" for Channel 4 - a series of programmes broadcast in April 2009....... and now, the book of the series! "Hilary is a spinner and weaver of tapestries and rugs. She's the real deal, an artisan who adores her craft and has been developing it for more than 27years. And you'd have to love it......I took one of Hilary's hand made rugs home, and I smile every time I see it." Kirstie Allsopp
